Uber fan Kevin Smith will direct an episode of ‘The Flash’ as well as an episode of ‘Supergirl’ during season 2….
Kevin Smith is becoming a regular face around the CW superhero scene.
The ‘Clerks’ and ‘Chasing Amy’ director was already slated to direct an upcoming episode of ‘The Flash’ during season 3 — after a very well received debut doing an emotional episode during season 2 — and now he’s set to fly over National City as well.
Smith has officially signed on to direct an episode of ‘Supergirl’ during season 2 on The CW.
While Smith had never done any work with ‘Supergirl’ previously, he certainly has experience in the Superman universe after writing the first draft for the ill fated ‘Superman Lives’ film that was supposed to be directed by Tim Burton and star Nicolas Cage. Smith eventually left the project and detailed his experience on the movie in one of the funniest diatribes ever unleashed by the New Jersey native.
Now Smith comes full circle as he’ll work within the ‘Supergirl’ universe this time around and the producers behind the show even titled the episode with an homage to him in mind.
“The other day, my own personal superhero Andrew Kreisberg told me something in an email that made me roll a tear: it has nothing to do with the actual plot of my episode, but they titled the script for the one I’m directing “Supergirl Lives”,” Smith revealed.
“Only way any of this gets better would be if Kara has to fight a giant spider (or “Thanagarian Snare Beast”) in the 3rd act.”
If you’re unsure about that reference, just watch Smith tell the story himself and gear up for ‘Supergirl’ season 2 on the CW debuting on October 10.
