Kurt Sutter is quietly working on a Sons of Anarchy spinoff that would focus on the rival Mayan motorcycle club….
Ever since Jax Teller took his final ride last December, Sons of Anarchy fans have been clamoring to hear any kind of news about a possibly spinoff to keep the series alive after the seven season run became the most watched show in FX history.
Now it appears a wish has been granted as Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter is currently in the early stages of developing a series that would focus on the Mayan motorcycle club, who first appeared in the outlaw biker drama as a rival to the Sons.
The potential series is still very early in the developmental phase and Sutter is wrapped up in production for his new series The Bastard Executioner, which debuts on FX in September, but talks are ongoing to develop the show for FX.
On Sons of Anarchy, the Mayans were an Oakland based group led by president Marcus Alvarez (Emilio Rivera) and they had frequent run ins with SAMCRO over seven seasons — often times as enemies but ending the series as friends.
Because the new spinoff is so early in development there’s no word on whether or not this Mayan spinoff would focus on the same time period as Sons of Anarchy or possibly take place after the events in the series finale that aired last December.
Either way, Sons of Anarchy fans can rejoice because the series is at least in development and chances are given the success the charter show had at FX, the Mayan spinoff will almost definitely make it to screen at some point in the future.
