Kurt Sutter has revealed a few new details for his planned Sons of Anarchy prequel including the time the show would take place….
Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter has long talked about doing a prequel for his hugely popular series that would document the start of the famous motorcycle club in the 1960’s after founders John Teller and Piney Winston returned home from Vietnam.
Sutter created some mythology about the founding of the Sons of Anarchy during the seven season run of the main series, but he always teased that a prequel series could happen that would actually show how the club came together in the earliest days.
Many wondered, however, if a Sons of Anarchy prequel would run from the time that Teller got home from Vietnam all the way to his death in the early 1990’s or how much space would be covered in the series.
Well, Sutter has finally revealed that he has plans in mind for the Sons of Anarchy prequel but the offshoot would only last for about 10 to 12 episodes covering the start of the club but the show would end before getting into any of the shared mythology with the main series.
“At some point I do have plans to hopefully do the prequel, which I do see as a one-off 10 or 12-episode thing where we begin in Nam and see John Teller and Piney and see how that relationship got created, and bring them back to the States and the obvious external dynamics that were going on with the country and the perception of the war and what an odd kind of perception these Vets got when they returned home,” Sutter revealed.
“And then have it be the development of the club, ending before we start to get too close to some of the mythology that’s already been established.”
So while it sounds like the Sons of Anarchy prequel will definitely happen at some point in the future it looks like Sutter will end the show long before John Teller heads to Ireland or has a falling out with his wife Gemma and his best friend Clay, which served as the catalyst to the backstory for the main show.
Sutter hasn’t set a timeline for his proposed Sons of Anarchy prequel due to work on his current series The Bastard Executioner, which debuts on FX this Tuesday, September 15.
Once Sutter has some time free in his schedule he has stated that would be when he would tackle a possible Sons of Anarchy prequel but there’s no schedule when that would happen.
