Leonardo DiCaprio confirmed recently that he met with George Lucas about playing Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars prequels but turned down the role…
Leonardo DiCaprio may be one of the best actors working in Hollywood today and it seems almost everything he touches turns into an award worthy performance.
Now imagine him playing Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars prequels because it could have happened.
According to DiCaprio while promoting his new movie The Revenant, he said that he met with Star Wars creator George Lucas during the casting for Star Wars: Attack of the Clones after Anakin Skywalker aged and began his training with Obi-Wan Kenobi (played in those films by Ewan McGregor). The role ultimately went to Hayden Christensen.
“I did have a meeting with George Lucas about that as well, yes,” DiCaprio said in a recent interview with ShortList.com
DiCaprio said that Lucas wanted him for the part, but ultimately he didn’t feel it was the right role for him at that particular time in his career.
“Just didn’t feel ready to take that dive. At that point,” DiCaprio said.
The veteran actor has also tested for parts in several superhero films including Spider-Man and Batman Forever when director Joel Schumacher was interested in him playing Robin — a role that ultimately went to Chris O’Donnell. DiCaprio said that was the same scenario where he just didn’t feel it was the right part for him during his career.
DiCaprio did say that he’s not opposed to the idea of playing a role in a future project based on a comic book but he approaches every role with a unique perspective and it depends on the script and story that comes along with the film.
“You never know. You never know,” DiCaprio said. “They’re getting better and better as far as complex characters in these movies. I haven’t yet. But no, I don’t rule out anything.”
For now, DiCaprio is focused on The Revenant, which lands in theaters nationwide on Jan. 8 with the movie already out in theaters in limited release currently.
