Man of Steel 2 will head to the Motor City of Detroit for filming in early 2014…
Detroit Rock City is about to become Metropolis.
Detroit has secured the rights to host the upcoming Man of Steel sequel directed by Zack Snyder, who will shoot in the Michigan city beginning in the first quarter of next year.
The Michigan Film Office announced on Thursday that the state has approved a $35 million dollar incentives package for the movie to be filmed in Detroit that will center around Superman as well as the arrival of Batman into the Man of Steel 2 plot.
The production behind Man of Steel 2 will put more than 400 Michigan residents to work, as well as thousands of extras while also pumping millions back into the Michigan economy as well. The production is expected to spend over $5 million in local hotels alone.
“Detroit is a great example of a quintessential American city, and I know it will make the perfect backdrop for our movie,” Snyder said in a press release about the filming.
While no details about the fictional location of the movie have been confirmed, it’s likely that Detroit’s backdrop will serve as Superman’s home city of Metropolis, although with Ben Affleck now cast as Batman it could also be used for shots of Gotham City if the script takes the move in that direction as well.
