Margot Robbie had such a good time filming ‘Suicide Squad’ that she wants to come back for a Joker/Harley Quinn movie….
Whether you loved or hated ‘Suicide Squad’, it’s hard to deny that the real stand out performer amongst the cast was Margot Robbie, who played infectious psychopath Harley Quinn.
It was the first time Harley Quinn had appeared in a live action movie and Robbie has received rave reviews for her portrayal of the popular Batman villain while starring alongside Jared Leto as The Joker.
Director David Ayer filmed a ton of footage with both The Joker and Harley Quinn, but once editing on the movie began, many of their scenes were left on the cutting room floor.
The Joker and Harley Quinn were definitely two of the bright spots in ‘Suicide Squad’ so it was disappointing they didn’t get more on screen time together, much less more of their back story being told during the movie.
According to Robbie, there is a lot more Joker/Harley Quinn video out there that Ayer didn’t put in ‘Suicide Squad’ but hopefully with the DVD/blu-ray release, fans will all good to see what exactly brought these two damaged lovebirds together.
“We filmed so much of our backstory,” Robbie said. “They probably realized the emotional through line of the story had to be the mission we were on. And kind of explaining The Enchantress’s position and all of that kind of stuff. And the backstory stuff is like magic. Some of the stuff we shot is insane.
“They are flashbacks, meant to be snippets. But I think when we were filming maybe we got too engrossed into flashbacks. Especially when you got Jared [Leto], he’s going so deep with that character and we’re all like going really, really deep. And David [Ayer] goes really deep with the characters. Yeah, so there’s a lot, but it didn’t make sense to confuse the current/present storyline to incorporate all of that.”
While Robbie definitely got more screen time as Harley Quinn than Leto did as the Joker, a film focused on the two of them could be a break out film for the DC Extended Universe in the future.
Robbie says she’s not only on board for a Joker/Harley Quinn movie, but she’s advocating to make it happen because there’s a lot more story left to tell with these two characters and their truly messed up relationship and she wants it to be told.
“I’m trying to make that happen,” Robbie said about the movie idea. “Not for anything specifically but just something — there’s just so much more to do.”
‘Suicide Squad’ is in theaters now.
