Marvel Announces Phase 3 Films Including Captain Marvel, Inhumans and Doctor Strange

The next phase of Marvel’s movie empire was announced during a fan event on Tuesday as president Kevin Feige made a few new projets official after months of speculation.

Captain Marvel will finally get a movie from Marvel being released in July 6, 2018. The movie will be based on Carol Danvers, which means for first time ever a female superhero will lead a Marvel film project.

“This Captain Marvel’s name is Carol Danvers,” said Feige. “This film has been in the works almost as long as Doctor Strange or Guardians of the Galaxy before it came out, and one of the key things was figuring out what we wanted to do with it. Her adventures are very earthbound, but her powers are based in the cosmic realm.”

In the comics, Danvers is a former member of the Air Force and NASA who encounters the Kree race while in space before eventually suffering an accident where her body is altered with Kree genes. She becomes a superhuman with a huge number of powers at her disposal before eventually taking on the Captain Marvel moniker.

Casting for the role of Captain Marvel will not take place until after a writer and director are secured for the project.

In addition to Captain Marvel, the studio also announced a new movie for “The Inhumans”, which will be released on November 2, 2018.

The Inhumans were originally a race created by the Kree during a war with the Skrulls after they came to Earth and decided to experiment on early humans in a way to see what would happen if they spliced genes in an attempt to create a ‘super soldier’ of sorts. While the experiments were eventually abandoned, the leftover results were a race known as the Inhumans, led by their leader Black Bolt.

Marvel also confirmed the release date for the new Doctor Strange movie on November 4, 2016. Feige could not confirm, however, the casting news about Benedict Cumberbatch playing Strange on the big screen. He stated that until it’s official, he could not confirm anything.
