Matthew McConaughey said he would be interested to star in a Marvel or DC project with the right script but apparently Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 didn’t qualify….
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista and the voices of Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper will get into production in 2016, but the search continues for a lead actor to play the villain after Matthew McConaughey recently turned down the part.
Variety reported this week that McConaughey was offered the role of the featured villain in the upcoming sequel to the original film that grossed more than $770 million at the box office.
McConaughey was offered the part from Marvel and Guardians director James Gunn, but ultimately passed on the project leaving the studio still in search of someone to fill the role.
McConaughey has stated in the past that he would be interested in joining the comic book film universe for either Marvel or DC if the right part and script came along, but it appears the criteria wasn’t filled with Guardians or it could have been timing with another project the Oscar winning actor is targeting.
As of now, there’s been no word on who the villain is expected to be in the Guardians sequel titled Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2.
In more positive news, the film did cast newcomer Pom Klementieff in a mystery role for the sequel.
Klementieff is a relative unknown in the industry but scored a coveted part in the upcoming movie that’s due out on May 5, 2017.
