Mike Flanagan will return to the world of Stephen King for his next film after announcing a massive cast with production approved under the SAG/AFTRA strike…
Horror master Mike Flanagan just has a way with Stephen King adaptations — he’s already done “Doctor Sleep,” “Gerald’s Game” and plans for “The Dark Tower” — so he’s once again tapping source material from the famed author for his next film.
On Wednesday, Flanagan announced the massive cast for “The Life of Chuck,” which is based on a short story in King’s anthology “If It Bleeds,” which was released back in 2020.
Here’s the synopsis for “Life of Chuck.”
“The Life of Chuck is three separate stories linked to tell the biography of Charles Krantz in reverse, beginning with his death from a brain tumor at 39 and ending with his childhood in a supposedly haunted house.”
While “The Life of Chuck” obviously touches on horror, the film will reportedly share a similar tone as King stories previously adapted such as “Stand By Me” and “The Shawshank Redemption.”
Tom Hiddleston and Mark Hamill will lead the cast as well as Chiwetel Ejiofor, Karen Gillan and Jacob Tremblay. New cast members that Flanagan announced on Wednesday include “Scream” favorite Matthew Lillard and “Nightmare on Elm Street” legend Heather Langenkamp, who previously worked on Flanagan’s series “The Midnight Club.”
Also joining the cast will be Mia Sara, Taylor Gordon, Benjamin Pajak, Trinity Jo-li Bliss, Q’Orianka Kilcher, Antonio Raul Corbo, Harvey Guillen, David Dastmalchian, Kate Siegel, Carl Lumbly, Annalise Basso, Samantha Sloyan, Rahul Kohli, Matt Biedel, Sauriyan Sapkota, Saidah Arrika Ekulona, Michael Trucco, Violet McGraw and Molly C. Quinn.
Of course many of those names are regulars in Flanagan’s films and TV series, which includes “The Fall of the House of Usher” that just recently debuted on Netflix.
“THE LIFE OF CHUCK is a very personal story for me, and a movie I am so grateful will be in the world,” Flanagan wrote on Twitter. “We’ll keep you posted with more updates as they come.”

Flanagan will direct the film as well as write the screenplay with his Intrepid Pictures serving as producer for the upcoming project. As an independent feature, “The Life of Chuck” also received a waiver to get into production during the ongoing SAG/AFTRA strike.
