The first trailer for “Morbius” has been released as Jared Leto transforms himself into a living vampire in this “Spider-Man” spinoff…
The latest film set in the “Spider-Man” universe will land in theaters on July 31 with “Morbius” starring Jared Leto.
The first trailer for the new film was released on Monday feature Leto in the lead role as Michael Morbius, a scientist stricken with a rare blood disorder that will eventually kill him unless he’s able to manufacture a cure. Sadly, Morbius finds a way to cure his disease but it comes with a deadly cost after he’s transformed in a vampiric creature with an insatiable thirst for blood.
Here’s the official synopsis from Sony:
One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar® winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success soon reveals itself to be a remedy potentially worse than the disease.
“Morbius” also stars Matt Smith, Jared Harris and Adria Arjona with Daniel Espinoza serving as the director.
Pay close attention to the end of the trailer for a special appearance by Michael Keaton as it appears he is returning for a cameo spot as Adrian Toomes aka the Vulture after first playing the villain in “Spider-Man: Homecoming.” While Sony has continued to churn out spinoffs set in the “Spider-Man” universe including “Venom” and the upcoming sequel starring Tom Hardy, the studio has largely avoided making any real connections to the webslinger with that character primarily crossing over into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The fact that Keaton is appearing in “Morbius” means perhaps Sony is beginning to make overtures that the two worlds will finally crossover with Tom Holland’s portrayal as “Spider-Man.”
For now take a look at the first trailer for “Morbius” with the film set to release on July 31.
