Robert Kirkman and The Walking Dead certainly seem to have the market cornered but the godfather of zombies is invading the comic book industry with a new series from Marvel…
Whenever the world zombie is mentioned, the next words out of your mouth should be ‘George Romero’ because he is the original, the creator and the godfather of all things undead.
From his classic film ‘Night of the Living Dead‘, which will actually be back in theaters this October 24 as a special Halloween engagement from Fathom Evens, to Dawn of the Dead to Day of the Dead and so on and so forth.
Now Romero is teaming up with comic book giant Marvel and acclaimed artist Alex Maleev for a new five part series called ‘Empire of the Dead‘ that will be released in January.
“George A. Romero singlehandedly created the zombie genre that’s captured the public imagination for decades,” says Editor In Chief Axel Alonso. “Now, his unique vision for the silver screen comes to life on the comic book page – a chilling rumination on human nature and man’s place in the food chain, served with a terrifying twist.”
The plot for the upcoming comic will take Romero out of his normal digs in Pittsburgh, all the way to the Big Apple in New York for this latest zombie kill fest.
The story is described below:
Welcome to New York City years after the plague has hit. But just because the Big Apple has been quarantined doesn’t mean that everyone inside is safe! Flesh-eating zombies roam within the confines of Manhattan…but they’re not the only predator that’s poised and ready to strike! Who or what is this new menace?
Romero will appear at next weekend’s New York Comic Con on Saturday to reveal more about the upcoming series in a panel slated for Room 1E at 4pm, and he will also be signing autographs at Booth 1354 from 1:30 to 3:30pm.
The series will then officially land on comic book shelves in January with the writing by Romero and art by Maleev.
