The live action film for the 1980’s cartoon/toy series ‘Jem and the Holograms’ has started casting with Audrey Peeples — best known for her role on ABC’s ‘Nashville’ — landing the lead roll of Jem/Jerrica Benton.
In addition to Peeples landing the lead role, Stephanie Scott (Disney’s A.N.T. Farm) will play Jem’s sister Kimber, Aurora Perrineau (Pretty Little Liars) has been cast as Shana and Hayley Kiyoko (The Fosters) will play Aja rounding out the backup group known as the Holograms.
The movie is being adapted to the screen by director Jon M. Chu at Blumhouse Productions.
Peeples is getting her first crack at a lead in a major production and she has the singing chops to pull off playing Jem as she already performs on Nashville as a character named Layla Grant.
‘Jem and the Holograms’ will pick up production later this year with a release date for the movie still to be announced.
