Iconic Nintento title ‘The Legend of Zelda’ may soon be on your TV screens as a live action series…
Netflix is in the early stages of developing a live-action ‘Legend of Zelda’ series based in the popular Nintendo games that came to prominence in the late 1980’s.
According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, the subscription based service has engaged in preliminary talks to bring the game to life on the small screen in a PG version of ‘Game of Thrones’ style story telling with a family friendly appeal.
‘The Legend of Zelda’ games are an iconic title under the Nintendo brand focusing on a story about a young boy named Link, who goes on a magical quest to save a princess named Zelda in a world known as Hyrule.
Over the years, Nintendo has been hesitant to license out many of their iconic characters for any kind of use in other media. There was a single season of a ‘Legend of Zelda’ cartoon as well a live-action ‘Super Mario Bros’ movie starring the late Bob Hoskins, which bombed at the theaters in 1993.
The adaptation of ‘Zelda’ into a live-action series is in the very early stage of development and a writer hasn’t even signed on for the show yet, but Netflix seems very interested in making it happened.
Netflix has continued to push into more original programming over the last few years as well as more kid-friendly series in development so this could be a big reason why ‘The Legend of Zelda’ is starting to take form right now.
