The new Star Trek series headed to CBS and their online network just got a big land as Bryan Fuller has been added as show runner…
The new Star Trek series will be in safe hands as Bryan Fuller — best known as the show runner from the critically acclaimed series Hannibal — will serve as co-creator and show runner on the new CBS series.
Fuller actually cut his teeth as a writer for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager so this really is a trip home for the television veteran except now he’ll lead the series that will debut on CBS before moving all subsequent episodes to the CBS All-Access format online.
“My very first experience of Star Trek is my oldest brother turning off all the lights in the house and flying his model of a D7 Class Klingon Battle Cruiser through the darkened halls,” Fuller said in a statement. “Before seeing a frame of the television series, the Star Trek universe lit my imagination on fire. It is without exaggeration a dream come true to be crafting a brand-new iteration of Star Trek with fellow franchise alum Alex Kurtzman and boldly going where no Star Trek series has gone before.”
There aren’t many details about the new Star Trek series — when the show takes place, what will be the context, etc — but it looks like CBS has put the show in capable hands with Fuller leading the way.
Now that a show runner is in place, expect casting announcements and some story ideas for the new Star Trek to start appearing in the very near future.
