Get ready for the first ever female version of ‘Thor’ because the God of Thunder is about to get a dramatic update from Marvel…
In the new age of superhero stories, Marvel has started to tear down old gender boundaries when it comes to comic books, dispelling old myths that it’s all about big muscular men in tight pants with a cape on their back.
To that effect, Marvel introduced on Tuesday a new take on a classic character that will forever shake up the comic book universe.
Thor — best known as one of The Avengers, a God from Asgard and a classic character in the Marvel Universe — will get a big update in a book coming out in October from writer Jason Aaron. The classic male version of Thor is no longer able to pick up his hammer, Mjölnir, and as the inscription on the handle reads “Whosoever holds this hammer, if HE be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor”.
Well that is about to get a major update.
The new Thor will be a woman because she is able to lift the mighty hammer from Asgard, but who is she and how is she able to do what the old Thor was unable to do?
“This is not She-Thor. This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita. This is THOR,” writer Jason Aaron said about the new version of the character. “This is the THOR of the Marvel Universe. But it’s unlike any Thor we’ve ever seen before.”
