Olivia Munn recently revealed that she was offered a lead role in Deadpool but instead opted for a different part in X-Men: Apocalypse…
By now just about everybody has seen the brilliance that was executed with the movie Deadpool — from the spot on casting to the line-for-line perfection of the dialogue and story.
The underdog movie that took years to get off the ground eventually became the highest grossing “R” rated film of all time.
But could you imagine Deadpool (played by Ryan Reynolds) falling in love with Olivia Munn instead of Morena Baccarin?
Because that’s what nearly happened.
Munn recently revealed in an interview that she was offered the part of Vanessa in Deadpool, but she wasn’t all that interested in playing the girlfriend to the lead character and instead wanted a more action packed role.
That’s when the role of Psylocke came up for X-Men: Apocalypse instead.
“I said, ‘Is there a fight scene?’ The fight scene could be her monologue,” Munn said in a recent interview. “I thought Psylocke was always one of the most lethal characters, and I said, ‘Yes, as long as you’re not using her to be the eye candy.
“She has really powerful abilities.’ And they said, ‘Yes, that’s an important part.'”
Judging by the trailers, Munn got her wish because Psylocke seems like a very important part of X-Men: Apocalypse where she plays one of the Four Horsemen of Apocalypse.
Obviously hindsight is always 20/20 but things seemed to play out for the best considering how well Baccarin played Vanessa in Deadpool and all signs are pointing towards Munn being a new favorite in the upcoming X-Men movie.
We’ll find out for sure when X-Men: Apocalypse opens in theaters nationwide on May 27.
