The casting news for ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ continues to dribble out as filming has begun in Abu Dhabi and London with two new additions being announced on Monday.
Academy award winner Lupita Nyong’o, who has been rumored as a cast member for the new Star Wars movie for months, has officially joined the cast. The actress won her award for her part in the Oscar winning feature ’12 Years a Slave’ and now she joins the cast of ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ as what will likely be one of the lead roles in the upcoming film.
Also added to the cast on Monday was ‘Game of Thrones’ actress Gwendoline Christie, best known for her role as Brienne of Tarth on the popular HBO series ‘Game of Thrones’. She can also be seen in the next film in ‘The Hunger Games’ series titled ‘Mockingjay Part 2’.
“I could not be more excited about Lupita and Gwendoline joining the cast of Episode VII,” said Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy in a release on Monday. “It’s thrilling to see this extraordinarily talented ensemble taking shape.”
‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ is in production under the direction of J.J. Abrams with the release date for the film set as December 18, 2015.
