Veteran actor and Oscar winner Maximilian Schell has died at the age of 83…
Austrian born actor Maximilian Schell died in a hospital over the weekend after battling what his agent said was a ‘serious illness’. He was 83.
Schell grew up in Austria before his family actually had to flee the country during Adolf Hitler’s reign of terror throughout Europe. He later rose to prominence as an actor in several major roles, most notably in ‘Judgment at Nuremberg‘, which he later received an Oscar for best actor.
For many fans of science fiction and fantasy, it was Schell’s roles in John Carpenter’s ‘Vampires‘ or in the end of the world flick ‘Deep Impact‘ where you may best remember the veteran actor. Beyond acting, Schell was also a well known pianist and conductor as well.
