Paul Bettany will go from the voice of JARVIS in the Iron Man films to playing The Vision in the upcoming Avengers 2: Age of Ultron…
The casting for ‘The Avengers 2: Age of Ultron‘ is almost complete with the latest role being added on Thursday. Veteran British actor Paul Bettany — who is already known to many Marvel fans as the voice of Tony Stark’s computer JARVIS in the Iron Man films — will play The Vision in the upcoming movie.
Bettany has been rumored for the role for months, but then other names started popping up such as action star Vin Diesel that were allegedly attached to the part. Now it appears Bettany’s place is secured with him playing the role of the android Avenger The Vision.
For a little back story on the character — The Vision is an android created by the robot Ultron to help in its quest to destroy The Avengers, but eventually the machine turns on its master and becomes a permanent member of The Avengers. In the comic books, Ultron was actually created by Dr. Hank Pym, who is the original Ant-Man that will be played by Michael Douglas in that upcoming movie.
While no plot details have been released for the upcoming movie, director and writer Joss Whedon has said that Ultron’s creator in his movie will not be Hank Pym, which leads most to believe it will be inventor Tony Stark who manages to put together the pieces to eventually birth the killer robot. Maybe there’s a method to the madness that Ultron’s creation will be The Vision — complete with Tony Stark’s computer’s voice in tact thus Bettany’s starring role.
Of course that could all be speculation but it’s fun to see the puzzle pieces come together.
The Avengers 2: Age of Ultron will film in several locations around the world including London before opening in theaters on May 1, 2015.
