Writer-director Ted Geoghegan has openly admitted that he doesn’t enjoy setting any of his projects in present day — in fact he’s gone as far as saying he hates the present day so he always seeks to make films set in the past.
For his latest film, he traveled back to 1945 just after World War II had ended and he wanted to tackle themes that didn’t just show the jubilation surrounding victory for the Allies over the Axis powers.
Instead, Geoghegan knew through research that that time period was filled with a lot of despair and an alarming amount of suicides. His story deals blind patriotism and growing paranoia while centered around a group of lifelong friends who almost all fought together during the war but now they’ve returned home just months after Germany and Japan have surrendered.
One friend in particular is dealing with a tragedy in his personal life after his wife took her own life and he’s called upon his fellow soldiers to carry out one last mission for him — a séance that will allow him to reach out to his dead wife one last time…
