The show follows a disenchanted preacher named Jesse Custer, who enjoys drinking the day away as much as he does testifying to his parishioners before an ancient, powerful force possesses his body giving him incredible power but that symbiotic bond also drives God to abdicate his throne in heaven. So along with his criminal ex-girlfriend Tulip and a half-sauced vampire named Cassidy, they set out on a mission to locate God.
The show stars Dominic Cooper, Ruth Negga, and Joe Gilgun with Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Sam Catlin serving as executive producers.
In even more interesting news from the initial pilot screening that took place at South by Southwest this past weekend, Tom Cruise makes a surprise appearance in the first episode.
Obviously no one knew or teased that Cruise would make an appearance and while it’s rather brief, he makes quite an impact during the first episode of Preacher.
From all accounts, the initial pilot episode received a lot of applause and rave reviews from the audience. Of course A LOT of shows get that from an initial screening but the real test will happen in May when Preacher finally debuts on AMC.
