The highly anticipated show Preacher has officially been giving a series order at AMC and will debut in AMC….
Preacher — based on the iconic comic book series from Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon — will officially get a 10 episode first season order at AMC with plans to release the new show in 2016.
The show is produced by Seth Rogen, Sam Caitlin and Evan Goldberg.
The story of Preacher swirls around a small time preacher in Texas named Jesse Custer (played in the series by Dominic Cooper), who is possessed by a supernatural creature called Genesis, which is the unholy union between an angel and a demon. Immediately after Genesis is created, God abdicates his throne in Heaven and disappears.
Now Jesse, who might just be more powerful than God with the powers he’s absorbed, goes on a mission with his ex-girfriend (played by Ruth Negga) and a hard drinking Irish vampire named Cassidy (played by Joe Gigun) to find God.
The pilot was one of the most talked about projects in 2015 so it’s no surprise the show was picked up to series at AMC.
Rogen was the first to break the news while also releasing the first poster for the new series on Twitter

Preacher is regarded as one of the best written and most critically acclaimed comics of all time, but finding a home for an adaptation has been nothing short of impossible over the years.
Once Rogen and his friends took over the project, Preacher finally found new life and the series will finally come to fruition in 2016. No debut date has been announced yet although Rogen originally teased it would be May 2016 but as of now AMC hasn’t confirmed an actual launch for the show.
