Oscar winner Jared Leto is rumored to be circling a role in “The Suicide Squad” film that could end up being The Joker….
With the next slate of DC Comics movies getting ready to go into production this latest bit of casting news could certainly be another warning shot to Marvel.
Jared Leto — fresh off his Oscar win for his role in “Dallas Buyers Club” — is rumored to be close to landing a role in the upcoming Warner Bros. film “The Suicide Squad”. According to TheWrap, Leto is circling a part in the film but even bigger is who he’s rumored to play.
None other than the clown prince of crime — The Joker.
Now it must be noted that Leto hasn’t been confirmed for the part, nor is it set in stone that The Joker is set to appear in “The Suicide Squad” but apparently writers are working on another draft of the script where he would be included.
The casting would make sense based on a separate report from LatinoReview stating that Cara Delevingne is potentially being sought to play Harley Quinn for the upcoming film as well. Where Harley Quinn goes, the apple of her eye The Joker is never far behind.
Signing Leto would be a big land for Warner Bros. after he was originally rumored as one of the final actors up for the role of Doctor Strange in the Marvel movie currently in pre-production. The role of Doctor Strange is likely going to “Sherlock” star Benedict Cumberbatch instead.
Currently no one has officially been cast in “The Suicide Squad” although names like Will Smith, Tom Hardy and Margot Robbie have been rumored to land roles in the film.
For now everything is still in the preliminary stage of discussions but it would be an interesting addition to the DC Comics family of movies. The last person to portray The Joker on screen was Heath Ledger in “The Dark Knight”. He posthumously won an Oscar for the role in 2009.
