‘Zero Dark Thirty’ actress Jessica Chastain has reportedly been offered the lead role in the second season of ‘True Detective’ but the real question remains, is she interested?
Thanks to an amazing script from creator Nic Pizzolatto and acting courtesy of Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, HBO’s ‘True Detective’ became one of the most talked about and popular shows in 2014.
With the success and A-list casting for the first season, the second installment of ‘True Detective’ is expected to be one of the hottest shows for 2015. While rumors have circulated for months trying to speculate which stars might fill in for season two, it appears at least one offer has gone out to a top named actress for a part in the show.
Jessica Chastain — best known for her role in the 2012 film ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ as well as her part in the upcoming film from Christopher Nolan titled ‘Interstellar’ — has apparently been offered one of the lead roles in the new season. Nerdist reports that Chastain was chosen for the role and offered the part following Pizzolatto’s declaration that he wanted a stronger, female lead for the second season.
As of now, Chastain hasn’t accepted the role, but according to the report the offer has been made and now it’s just awaiting word on whether or not she wants the part.
Currently, Chastain has her name attached to at least three ongoing projects as well as a rumored part in ‘Mission Impossible 5’ although that has never been made official. ‘True Detective’ season one was an eight-episode series filmed over a few months with the locations all taking place in Louisiana.
It’s unknown if Chastain would even be interested in the part, but considering the reception and expected Emmy nod for McConaughey during awards season, the lead in ‘True Detective’ will certainly be one of the most sought after parts in Hollywood this year.
UPDATE: Just hours after the original rumor broke that Chastain had been offered the part in True Detective season 2, both Chastain’s reps and executives from HBO told E! that the story was absolutely false. Chastain will not be in True Detective season 2 despite claims otherwise.
So there you go, back to the drawing board and keep those guesses coming on who will pair up as the new McConaughey and Harrelson for season 2 of True Detective.
