The famous time traveling mutant known as Cable may be played a favorite from ‘Stranger Things’…
The coveted role of Cable in ‘Deadpool 2’ may soon be filled.
According to a report from The Wrap, ‘Stranger Things’ star David Harbour is being considered for the role and he’s already screen tested for FOX as they get closer and closer to production this year.
Harbour is best known for his role as Chief Jim Hopper in the Netflix hit series ‘Stranger Things’ but he’s also had featured roles on ‘The Newsroom’ on HBO as well as films such as ‘Black Mass’ and ‘Suicide Squad’.
Casting for the part of Cable has been ongoing for quite some time and rumors surfaced that arguments over who would play the part led to a split between ‘Deadpool’ star Ryan Reynolds and director Tim Miller, who eventually left the project and was later replaced by ‘John Wick’ director David Leitch.
Cable is also known by his real name Nathan Summers and in comic book lore he’s the son of X-Men leader Scott Summers aka Cyclops, who is sent into the future to save his life after he’s infected with a rare virus that cannot be treated in this timeline. He later returns as an adult known as Cable before founding the group known as X-Force before having numerous run ins with Deadpool over the years.
From the sound of things, Cable’s back story may change for the new version appearing in ‘Deadpool’ 2 but there’s still no word on the plot for the follow up film to one of the biggest surprise hits of 2016.
‘Deadpool 2’ is expected to begin production soon with a 2018 release date from FOX so clearly casting is a priority right now with several major parts to fill including Cable as well as Domino, another famous mutant from the pages of X-Force and other comics.
