Ridley Scott is returning with another Prometheus movie but he’s tying it to the Alien franchise even more this time including a reference to Sigourney Weaver’s iconic character Ripley….
Director Ridley Scott is currently promoting his new movie The Martian, but took some time to tease his upcoming sequel to the 2012 film Prometheus with a much deeper connection to the Alien movies than he had in the last film.
The new movie will be titled Alien: Paradise Lost and will be yet another tie-in that will eventually lead to the events we saw in the seminal film Alien, first released in 1979.
Maybe the bigger reveal than the title was Scott also confirming that the new sequel will also have some kind of connection to Sigourney Weaver’s iconic character Ellen Ripley, who was the consistent thread throughout the entire Alien franchise.
“In a way it is ‘Prometheus 2,’” Ridley said. “It’s exactly the same story. But it was always in the works to be called (Alien: Paradise Lost). Is Prometheus actually taking us off course from where I’m going, which is actually backing into the first Alien.
“I’ve even got connections with Ripley (in this), but I’m not telling you what.”
Scott also said that the next film will dig deeper into the creation of the alien creatures known as Xenomorphs and why they came about in the first place.
“Years ago, I kept mulling over what Alien 2 could be. I was fiddling around with some ideas. I was always fascinated with why this thing (Xenomorph) would be made, by whom, and for what purpose?” Scott said. “The planet it was on — and I was looking at the dark side of the moon — would be called Paradise. Paradise is a very ominous word.”
So there you have it folks — another Alien prequel but unlike the last one, this will actually take the name in the title of the movie!
There’s still no word on when Prometheus 2 aka Alien: Paradise Lost will go into production but Scott has stated that he sees at least two or three sequels spawning out from the original.
