Robert Downey Jr. clears up rumors about his possible involvement in a potential Iron Man 4 movie while also confirming that his current Marvel contract only runs for one more Avengers movie….
It appears hopes for Iron Man 4 have been dashed for now as actor Robert Downey Jr. confirms as of now there are no plans for the movie to be made.
Downey — who portrays billionaire Tony Stark aka Iron Man in the films — appeared on The Howard Stern show on Tuesday to promote his upcoming film ‘The Judge’ where he confirmed the sad news for Marvel fans.
“There is no Iron Man 4 that I’m aware of,” Downey stated.
There was a rumor floating around that Downey said he would commit to a fourth Iron Man movie as long as Mel Gibson was the director. Gibson has directed several movies in the past including ‘Braveheart’ and ‘The Passion of the Christ’, but Downey admits putting his name out there was just a thought he had with no further discussion on whether or not the veteran actor would have any interest in actually being involved with Iron Man 4.
“That was something I said in an article. First of all I don’t think he’d want to,” Downey said about Gibson being involved with the project.
As of now, Downey’s only commitment to Marvel is the upcoming film ‘The Avengers 2: Age of Ultron’ and a third Avengers movie. Following the close of The Avengers 3, Downey’s current contract with Marvel comes to an end.
“I’m contracted to do at least one more of those (Avengers movies),” Downey stated.
Downey didn’t completely shoot down the idea of doing another Iron Man movie, but despite reports to the contrary that have quoted the actor being goaded into saying ‘yes’ there is a fourth movie on the way, it just doesn’t appear to be true.
For now.
