The infamous affair between President Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky will be featured on a future season of ‘American Crime Story’…
Following a breakout freshman season as Ryan Murphy’s ‘American Crime Story’ focused on ‘The People vs. O.J. Simpson’, the prolific show runner has now bought the rights to another book covering the sex scandal involving former President Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky.
Murphy has optioned Jeffrey Toobin’s 2000 hit book “A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President.” for the source material for an upcoming season of ‘American Crime Story’ on FX.
Toobin also wrote ‘The Run of His Life: The People vs. O.J. Simpson’, which was the basis for the first season of ‘American Crime Story’ and the author was a key consultant on the series that ultimately wrapped up a ton of awards at the Emmys and Golden Globes.
According to reports, Murphy and his producers are fast tracking production on the series with potential actresses already being scouted to play Lewinsky and her colleague Linda Tripp. The infamous sex scandal erupted when Clinton admitted to having sexual relations with Lewinsky, which ultimately led to impeachment hearings against the former president. Efforts to impeach Clinton failed in both the House and the Senate, but the scandal surrounding the affair was a massive news story in the late 90’s during his second term in office.
Currently, Murphy and company are working on the second season of ‘American Crime Story’, which will focus on the aftermath surrounding Hurricane Katrina with a third season already in the works focusing on the assassination of famed clothing designer Donatella Versace.
From the look of things, the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal would then land in ‘American Crime Story’ season 4.
Toobin’s book on the subject is considered the definitive timeline of the events that surrounded the scandal and his work on the O.J. Simpson case certainly led to a compelling season of ‘American Crime Story’. Now Murphy is ready to team up with Toobin once again to tackle the infamous scandal surrounding President Clinton and Monica Lewinsky.
