It looks like the Merc with a Mouth has officially made the Mouse House his home after Ryan Reynolds confirmed ‘Deadpool 3’ is coming from Marvel Studios…
There has been scarce news about the X-Men universe moving over to Marvel Studios after Disney completed a massive purchase of the majority of assets that previously belonged to FOX.
Many fans hoped that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige might let some details slip about his plans at San Diego Comic Con or even the D23 Expo earlier this year, but he’s stayed tight lipped regarding any plans he’s putting together for the X-Men now that those characters will be housed alongside franchises such as ‘The Avengers,’ ‘Black Panther,’ and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’
Well now we know for certain at least one former FOX property has a home at Marvel after Ryan Reynolds confirmed he’s already been working on “Deadpool 3,” which will serve as the third film in a franchise that became a surprise hit back in 2016.
“We’re working on it right now with the whole team,” Reynolds told “Live with Kelly and Ryan”. “We’re over at Marvel, which is the big leagues all of a sudden. It’s kind of crazy.”
While it’s always been expected that Reynolds would bring “Deadpool 3” to Marvel Studios, there still had been no real, formal announcement even after the sale of FOX to Disney was completed. It’s also believed that Feige will be recasting the entire X-Men universe to relaunch those films under the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Reynolds might end up as the one exception to carry over to Marvel because it’s nearly impossible to imagine anyone else playing Deadpool at this point not to mention those two films have been very successful both with critics and audiences alike. The same can’t be said for many of the past X-Men films including the disastrous “X-Men: Dark Phoenix,” which crashed and burned at the box office.
At this point there’s still no word on when “Deadpool 3” will be released as Marvel has already announced an ambitious schedule for the next few years between theatrical releases and the upcoming slate of series headed to Disney+. Of course, “Deadpool 3” could get slotted anywhere in the midst of all those releases once the film gets into production and Marvel has determined the plans for that movie alongside the rest of the X-Men universe.
Stay tuned for more details on “Deadpool 3” as it becomes available.
