Sarah Michelle Gellar settles the age old debate of who Buffy the Vampire Slayer should end up with — Angel or Spike?

Throughout the course of seven television seasons, Buffy Summers dated a few different guys — but most notably were he relationships with two vampire bad boys named Angel and Spike.

The first few seasons of the show focused on Buffy’s on again, off again relationship with Angel including the heartbreaking season two finale where she’s forced to kill him after his soul is taken away and he’s about to end the world. Following Angel’s departure from Sunnydale, Buffy ended up with former big bad turned good guy Spike. With a head full of blonde locks and a British punk rock attitude, Spike was the exact opposite of Angel and Buffy carried on with him for quite some time.

In the end (of the television series anyways), Buffy didn’t end up with either one, but it will always beg the question — was Angel or Spike the better match for her?

Well, actress Sarah Michelle Gellar who played Buffy for seven seasons weighed in recently during an AMA on Reddit. She answered once and then again a second time to make sure everyone knew who was the true love of Buffy’s life.

So there you have it folks.  For all of those that wish Buffy had never left Angel you get your wish, and if you’re a Spike fan well you can go kick rocks. Just kidding, but the actress who probably knows Buffy better than anyone not named Joss Whedon says she Angel was the true love of her life.

Somewhere right now Spike is scowling and saying ‘bullocks’.
