One of the most well received freshman shows in 2015 has been Ryan Murphy’s horror/comedy Scream Queens, which is still in the middle of season one but it looks like season two is already being planned for 2016.
While FOX has yet to officially renew the series from the same team that created American Horror Story, Murphy revealed at a fan event on Saturday that he’s already pitched the story idea for season two and all the executives were excited about it.
The premise for Scream Queens is slightly tweaked from American Horror Story in that a few surviving characters will go on to the second season, but in a completely different setting with a different killer haunting them this time around.
“I just pitched to FOX the second season, which everybody loves the idea of it and the conceit is three or four of the cast members survive. The last episode the mask comes off of the Red Devil and you find out who that person was and why they did what they did and then that story is done. You’ll never go back to it,” Murphy revealed.
“The second season the survivors go off to a new venue — a horror based venue — and then they have to fight a new killer, a new villain, a new threat.”
The interesting revelation from Murphy came from his casting sessions, which have already started to take place in lieu of a second season renewal on FOX, which seems like almost a formality at this point.
As much as Murphy loves the cast on Scream Queens this season, he plans to save a few of the current actors and actresses to roll over to season two and then the rest will be new fresh faces for the canvas.
From the sound of things there will be a lot of them as well.
“Next season will be three or four of our cast members (from season one) and then 10 more. I’ve already started to meet those cast members,” Murphy said.
“I like to go after people I’ve always loved and never worked with before like Keke (Palmer) but Keke’s now in my world and will always be in my world but sometimes people will just write me emails and I’ve gotten a lot of emails.”
Much like American Horror Story has become a haven where celebrities from all over the world have asked to appear on the show, Murphy says it’s very much becoming the same concept with Scream Queens.
He’s received dozens of requests from actors, actresses, rock stars, pop stars and everything in between trying to score at least a guest appearance on the show. Apparently, one very famous male pop star has already been in touch with Murphy and from the sound of things it looks like season two might have a very well known singer make an appearance.
“Singer. Big pop star,” Murphy hinted. “I can’t give it away, they’d kill me. A male.”
Murphy stopped there before going any further but let the guessing games begin on which male star wants to appear on Scream Queens season two.
As far as other well known stars who are vying for a spot on the show, Murphy said even his current leading lady from American Horror Story has expressed interest in making an appearance on Scream Queens in the future.
“Lady Gaga wants to be on Scream Queens, she does,” Murphy said. “She watches it, she loves it.”
It looks like Scream Queens will not only be back for season two, but it will be just as star packed as ever with Murphy firing both barrels at potential castings and maybe a few more familiar faces will be decorating the blood soaked show when it returns in 2016.
As for now, Scream Queens will continue with its freshman season when the show returns on Tuesday night, November 3 after a brief hiatus due to the World Series airing on FOX.
