‘Sons of Anarchy’ will begin filming at the end of May for the final season of the popular outlaw biker drama on FX, and as creator and lead writer Kurt Sutter starts to put together the pieces to close the story on Jax Teller and the rest of the bikers in Charming, he’s also building the cast for the new year ahead.
Drea DeMatteo, who plays Jax’s estranged wife Wendy, was already signed on as a series regular a few months back, but now Sutter has also revealed that they have upped David LaBrava, who plays Sergeant-at-Arms Happy and Niko Nicotera, who plays ‘Ratboy’, to series regular status for the new season ahead.
Both LaBrava and Nicotera have been on the show at least in a minor role for the past few seasons, but now with Sons of Anarchy rolling into the final year, the stakes are even higher so they will get an increased role season seven.
In addition to LaBrava and Nicotera being bumped up, Sutter also revealed one guest star that will return to the Sons of Anarchy fold this year. ‘Terminator 2’ and ‘True Blood’ star Robert Patrick, who made a very brief blink-and-you-might-miss-it appearance in season six, will apparently return for a larger story arc this year.
“Robert Patrick, we had him on last season for a little cameo, and I dig Robert, been a fan of his for a long time,” Sutter said. “He’s a real life biker and he’s another dude that’s really fucking busy, but we’re going to spin a little story around him and bring him back for a few (episodes).”
Where and when Patrick could return is unknown at this time, but it sounds like plans are in place to at least hopefully include him in a few episodes this season.
Sutter also confirmed that Billy Brown, who plays gang leader August Marks, will also pop up for at least a few episodes during this final season of the show.
‘Sons of Anarchy’ the final season will bow in September on FX.
