The upcoming “Star Wars” series based around Ahsoka Tano has cast Natasha Liu Bordizzo as famed “Rebels” character Sabine Wren…
A major cast member has been added to the upcoming “Star Wars” spinoff series “Ahsoka,” which will see Rosario Dawson in the lead role as Ahsoka Tano.
Natasha Liu Bordizzo — best known for her recent role in the Amazon Prime movie “The Voyeurs” as well as the TV series “The Society” — has been cast as Sabine Wren, who is a character veteran “Star Wars” fans will know all too well.
Sabine Wren first appeared in the animated series “Star Wars: Rebels” where she was one of the lead characters voiced by Tiya Sircar.
In the series, Sabine Wren is a Mandalorian with her mother serving as a member of the group known as Death Watch, which is also where Bo-Katan (Katee Sackhoff) started as well. Sabine eventually rebelled against the Empire after she had initially started training at the Imperial Academy, which put her at odds with her family, as she sought to free Mandalore from their cruel dictatorship.
At one point, Sabine even came into possession of the Darksaber — a mystical weapon that appeared several times in “The Mandalorian” — as she tried to unite her people to battle back against the Empire. At the end of “Rebels,” Sabine’s crew had helped to defeat Grand Admiral Thrawn — a high ranked Imperial leader — but her good friend Ezra Bridger was on the same ship that was pulled into hyperspace and never heard from again.
After the fall of the Empire, Sabine teamed up with Ahsoka Tano with the purpose to track down Ezra and return him home.
Judging by Ahsoka Tano’s appearance in “The Mandalorian” where she’s seeking information about Grand Admiral Thrawn’s location, it would seem that will likely be the central story to the new series as she continues to hunt for Ezra Bridger and Sabine Wren will likely be joining her on the mission.
There’s no word yet when “Ahsoka Tano” will debut but this is just the latest “Star Wars” spinoff headed to Disney+ following “The Mandalorian” as well as the upcoming show “The Book of Boba Fett,” which debuts in December.
