I feel better about my thirty-five year old body because apparently there are Jedi Knights who are just as out of shape as me! In fact Luke Skywalker is eating salad as we speak, and Princess Leia is eyeing that golden bikini in her closet and going hmmm….
The best thing about Star Wars Episode VII is that the old gang is getting back together, and JJ Abrams is at the director’s helm. Mark Hamill who played a young and fit Luke Skywalker is now sixty-one years old, and although he currently may not be the Jedi we are looking for, it will be good to see a fit Skywalker who will at least look the part.
At fifty-six years old, Fisher is also a victim of life and gravity. She hasn’t been doing a lot of acting but instead has become a pretty good comedy writer and we all know what kind of shape writers are in.
So Disney has decided to put their two Jedis on diets and workout programs in order to get them in shape for what will probably be a physically demanding film. Both actors will have private trainers and nutritionists courtesy of Mickey Mouse.
Harrison Ford apparently doesn’t need help and is just fine, and Chewbacca has been doing Yoga and eating clean so he is good. The early buzz is that Luke Skywalker will be a old ass kicker and working his way to becoming premier Jedi Knight while teaching at the Jedi academy.
Not much else is known about the film premise that I imagine will be top secret. There is plenty of material out there like the Thrawn Trilogy book series by Timothy Zahn that one could have as inspiration when writing a screenplay. Zahn recently has said that he doesn’t believe George Lucas and JJ Abrams will be using his series and that he has actually seen some of Lucas’s notes that were written in the seventies on ideas for another trilogy.
We also know that George Lucas is going to be working as a creative consultant on the film and Academy Award winning writer Michael Arndt takes on the challenge of writing the trilogy screen plays.
In the end, JJ Abrams will be making the final call but he and Arndt will have access to Lucas’s notes and will use that as a starting point. Expect the Star Wars universe to be expanded with some new characters and I’m hoping for a possible Skywalker vs. Emperor showdown.
Star Wars episode VII went into pre-production in 2012 and will go into full production in early 2014. It is set to hit the silver screen in mid 2015 with the following Episodes VIII and IX being released every two years after that.
