It looks like the world will have to wait a little longer for Star Wars Episode VIII than originally expected after the movie was bumped back to a much later date in 2017 …
Star Wars Episode VIII — written and directed by Rian Johnson — was originally set for release in May 2017 but Lucasfilm announced on Wednesday that the highly anticipated movie has been shifted seven months later instead.
Star Wars Episode VIII will now be released on December 15, 2017.
The movie also saw principal photography pushed back to February after originally being slated to begin this month.
Part of the reason for the delay are some last minute script changes that apparently took place in the last few weeks, which was actually why Star Wars: The Force Awakens also got pushed back after Lawrence Kasdan was brought on board to help finish the script with director J.J. Abrams.
Star Wars Episode VIII will feature the same cast as the last film as well as add new names like Benicio Del Toro, who is expected to play a villainous role in the movie.
Expect updates from the set of Star Wars Episode VIII to start rolling in sometime in February or March as the cast and crew begin reporting to London for filming.
