Motion capture expert Andy Serkis is part of the ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ cast but now we know who he’s playing…
A few more details about ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ were leaked in a recent interview with photographer Annie Leibovitz while she was talking about the photoshoot she did with the cast for the cover of Vanity Fair.
Now the interview was conducted by StarWars.com so ‘leak’ is probably the wrong word because they undoubtedly knew EXACTLY what they were putting out there, but now we know.
The biggest detail released in the interview was confirmation that Andy Serkis would be playing a motion capture alien of some type in the upcoming ‘Star Wars’ sequel. While it was always kind of assumed that Serkis — who played Gollum in the ‘Lord of the Rings’ movies as well as Caesar in the recent ‘Planet of the Apes’ remakes — would have a similar motion capture role in the new ‘Star Wars’ he did get to appear on camera in a recent role in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’.
But now it’s been revealed that Serkis will play Supreme Leader Snoke in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’.
Now there were no further details given about the role, but the words ‘supreme leader’ do invoke a little detail that is available.
Imperial leaders after the fall of the Empire were called ‘supreme leader’ as well as members of the Sith during the Clone Wars were called supreme leader.
So in other words Serkis’ character Snoke is a bad guy.
‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ opens in theaters on December 18, 2015.
