It appears the distaste for both Jar-Jar Binks and the Ewoks have reached the powers that be behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens because neither appear in the movie….
The Star Wars universe is beloved by millions upon millions of fans across the world, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t a few things about the films that rub people the wrong way.
While a great many of them come from George Lucas’ prequels, which told the story of a young Anakin Skywalker eventually becoming Darth Vader, a couple of the biggest issues come down to particular characters.
First up are the Ewoks — the furry bear like creatures who decorated a big chunk of Return of the Jedi in 1983 — who were cute and cuddly at the time but now not exactly taken seriously in the entire Star Wars canon.
And then there’s Jar-Jar Binks.
The much maligned creature who first showed up in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, who was much more Sponge Bob than Star Wars, and then became the laughing stock of the entire universe as the years passed.
Well the good news is Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which opens in theaters on December 18, will not feature either one!
“Jar Jar is not in the movie,” Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy revealed on Sunday. “Ewoks are not in the movie. Harrison (Ford) insisted on it.”
While the second half of that line got a laugh from the crowd, chances are everyone actually breathed a sigh of relief to know that these not so great parts of the Star Wars universe will not be appearing in the upcoming trilogy that kicks off with the J.J. Abrams directed film due out in less than two weeks!
As far as other characters from who might appear in the movie, that remains to be seen but chances are this will be glimpse into the future while also remembering the past.
