There have been rumors ever since Disney purchased Lucasfilm that the Star Wars universe would be expanded exponentially, and now that’s been confirmed with three spinoff movies planned after ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ opens…
The chatter about a Han Solo movie or a Boba Fett feature has been a rumor as old as time, but now it appears those characters along with one other will get the film treatment.
Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed during a recent Walt Disney stockholders conference call that the studio plans to release three spinoff movies, alternating between the years when the main saga story isn’t being told.
The current plan would be for the first spinoff movie to land in theaters sometime in 2016, following the release of Star Wars: Episode VII on December 18, 2015.
While there’s been no actual confirmation of the characters who will be the focus of these movies, most rumors have circled around Han Solo and bounty hunter Boba Fett. A third character will also get the same focus, although the only name mentioned recently is Jedi master Yoda, but again at this stage every possibility could still happen.
The Star Wars universe will also land back in Marvel comics (another Disney property) following the conclusion of their current contract with Dark Horse Comics this year.
In other words get ready for a lot of Star Wars material in the next few years.
