Stephen King’s epic fantasy adventure ‘The Dark Tower’ will finally come to life at Sony after the studio picked up the option to turn the books into a film franchise…
Sony is fast tracking work on Stephen King’s ‘The Dark Tower’ for a new film franchise at the studio that will likely turn the eight-novel series into several movies spread out of the course of a few years.
According to Deadline, Sony has picked up the option on turning the book into a film after several other studios including Warner Bros. tried to get the project off the ground in previous attempts.
‘The Dark Tower’ is considered to be one of King’s most ambitious works of all time as he focuses on a gunsliner named Roland Deschain as he goes in search of the mythical dark tower in a world that mirrors are own in many ways but also features a fantasy element with magic and other sorcery taking place throughout the series.
Akiva Goldsman (Fringe, The DaVinci Code, Rings) is expected to work on the script for the first film mostly focused around the initial book in the series — ‘The Gunslinger’.
The project is popular at Sony right now so if the script turns out well, expect ‘The Dark Tower’ to get fast tracked at Sony to land in theaters sooner rather than later.
