‘Stranger Things’ is a living, breathing homage to the 80’s and now they’ve even added to iconic 80’s actors to the mix…
‘Stranger Things’ was a throwback to the best parts of the 1980’s and now season 2 has even managed to add two iconic actors from classic 80’s movies.
Sean Astin — best known for his role in ‘The Goonies’ — has been added to ‘Stranger Things’ season 2 where he plays Bob Newby — “a kindhearted former nerd who went to high school with Joyce (Winona Ryder) and Hopper (David Harbour) and now manages the local Hawkins RadioShack.”
Considering how much the kids in ‘Stranger Things’ love technology, Radio Shack might get a lot of free advertisement in season 2.
The other cast member added is Paul Reiser — known for plenty of roles including ‘Mad About You’ but sci-fi fans know him best as Burke, the company man in ‘Aliens’ — and he’s also joining ‘Stranger Things’ season 2.
From the sound of things, Reiser’s character may be taking over for Dr. Brenner (Matthew Modine), who was attacked and presumed dead after running into the Demogorgon last season (of course we never saw him die, so there’s a good chance he’ll be back as well).
Reiser plays Dr. Owens — “a high-ranking member within the Department of Energy on a ‘clean-up’ assignment, tasked with containing the events of last year.”
A third cast member was also added as Linnea Berthelsen will play a new character named Roman, who is “an emotionally damaged, magnetic young woman who suffered a great loss as a child. Although she does not live in Hawkins, she is mysteriously connected to the supernatural events at the lab.”
That certainly sounds like some kind of connection to Eleven, who we also know is coming back for ‘Stranger Things’ season 2.
Production on ‘Stranger Things’ season 2 just picked up this past week with a debut date on Netflix expected for summer 2017.
