Warner Bros. isn’t wasting any time moving forward on The Suicide Squad film with Will Smith, Tom Hardy and Margot Robbie already in negotiations for parts….
Following the mega announcement this week that DC Comics and Warner Bros. have already targeted a total of 10 movie projects up through 2020, the first major casting news is starting to come together.
The next project slated to land in theaters after ‘Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice’ will be an ambitious film based on the legendary DC Comics super villain turned government agents group, The Suicide Squad.
According to Deadline, the three stars already in talks to land roles in the upcoming project including Will Smith, Tom Hardy and Margot Robbie.
The three actors are all said to be deep in talks with Warner Bros. about taking parts in The Suicide Squad movie, although nothing is a done deal just yet. It would be a major land for Warner Bros., however, to score Smith as a star on the film along with Hardy, who has become a very popular actor in the last few years as well as Robbie, who has been a hot commodity ever since her turn in ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’.
The Suicide Squad — originally created in 1959 — has undergone a few directional changes over the years but the most popular incarnation follows this story: The government decides to put together a team of super villains that will be run as a black-ops group, going on missions so dangerous it’s just assumed one or all of them won’t make it out alive. The benefit of making it through is freedom or a reduced sentence in what would likely be multiple life terms in prison for any or all of them.
The lineup for The Suicide Squad was also ever changing because creators on the book would often use ‘B’ level villains to fill the ranks and they all became expendable while on these missions. The most recognized members during the initial run for The Suicide Squad included Bronze Tiger, Captain Boomerang and Deadshot.
The book was eventually rebooted for the DC Comics New 52, which saw the entire team changed up for the current incarnation of The Suicide Squad. The new team includes Deathstroke, Black Manta, Joker’s Daughter, Deadshot and Harley Quinn. It’s hard to say which version DC will ultimately choose for the team that they put together for The Suicide Squad movie, but let the guessing games begin with Smith, Hardy and Robbie all rumored for parts.
The Suicide Squad is set to be released in 2016, most likely in a summer date following the March release of ‘Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice’.
