Supergirl has officially added Tyler Hoechlin to the cast for season 2 as he picks up the mantle playing Superman for the series….
Look up in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane!
No, it’s Tyler Hoechlin!
Yep, Tyler Hoechlin — best known for his roles in Teen Wolf and 7th Heaven — has been cast at Superman for Supergirl season 2, which kicks off this fall on The CW.
“Greg [Berlanti] and I have wanted to work with Tyler for ages, so this worked out perfectly because Tyler is Superman,” Supergirl Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg said in a release. “We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character.”
Hoechlin is an interesting choice for any number of reasons, especially considering he’s only a year older than Supergirl star Melissa Benoist so it’s clear the show isn’t trying to make Superman that much older than his cousin.
It appeared that Supergirl had a slam dunk choice available with former Smallville star Tom Welling potentially taking over the role as Superman, but it looks like the series decided to go in a younger direction instead.
Hoechlin will make his debut on Supergirl during the first two episodes of season 2, which will debut on the CW this fall.
