In the Supergirl recap, Kara gets pulled in a few too many directions while coming face to face with her latest adversary….

So the flip-flop of episodes from last week to this week on Supergirl might seem slightly confusing but follow along.
Last week, James and Lucy were already back to being a super couple yet this week they were trying to reconnect with each other. Well now that we know they are back together just remember they ended up going on a weekend retreat to celebrate Thanksgiving.
Then there’s Alex and Kara’s question of trust when it came to Hank Henshaw — but then you have to remember last week it was revealed that he worked with their father and apparently had something to do with his death.
The rest wasn’t as confusing but just a couple key points to remember as we get into what happened in the latest episode.
With that said, let’s recap the new episode of Supergirl titled ‘How Does She Do It?’….
Somebody’s Watching Me
Kara discovers that she’s being watched by drones again and immediately accuses the DEO of spying just like they did when she first revealed herself to the world. The only problem is Hank Henshaw didn’t order the drone to follow her much less develop the high tech device doing surveillance that she ultimately smashed. The tech is so advanced, no one has answers right away but when a bomb explodes at a building and the same type of machinery is used, they start to put the pieces together.
Supergirl is called in to save the day at the building and when Hank gets his hands on the bomb material he figures out that the design was created at Lord Industries — aka Maxwell Lord’s company.
Going undercover as FBI agents, Hank and Alex visit Maxwell to find out about this technology and how it’s being used for bombs not to mention surveillance drones. Unfortunately, Maxwell is responsible for the hardware but has no idea who is actually doing the deed. The building that was attacked was actually one of his subsidiaries so technically he would have been destroying his own property.
Hank and Alex deduce that the bomber must be an employee or ex-employee with a grudge against Lord but when a device is discovered in the building and cutting the wires only speeds up the timer, this becomes a job for Supergirl.
Thankfully, she swoops in and saves the day and dumps the bomb out of town and over the atmosphere but the shockwave sends her crashing back into the ocean. DEO agents rescue her but as she awakens — under a tanning bed full of super powered solar lights meant to recharge her Kryptonian skin — Kara gets a brief glimpes of Hank’s red cyborg eyes but falls back into unconsciousness before she really sees anything.
Some research into employee records shows that the man behind the bombings is named Ethan Knox, a former scientist at Maxwell Lord’s company who was fired six-months ago after his work became sporadic and unpredictable. Now he’s looking for revenge and that means Maxwell Lord isn’t safe. Alex is placed on his detail, but despite the obvious threat on his life, he insists on moving forward with the unveil of his new Super Rail transit system that’s debuting tonight.
Maxwell doesn’t trust the government much — his parents used to work for them and eventually died working for them — but he has enough faith to know Alex and her cohorts will do everything possible to make him safe because either way, he’s going through with the launch, bomber be damned.
Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter is Supergirl?
Cat Grant receives a prestigious award this week — she even beat out Lois Lane to get it — but she’s not able to accept in person because her nanny is ill and she needs someone to watch her son Carter. Is it just me or has Carter never even been mentioned to this point?
Either way, Kara volunteers to help even though Cat thinks this is just a ploy so she can owe her one — which ultimately makes Cat like Kara even more!
The only problem is with all the Supergirl life saving happening that day, she’s late picking Carter up from school and has to leave him with Winn a couple of times while she ventures out to stop bombs from exploding and save billionaire tech geeks from getting killed.
In the middle of all that, Kara does find out that Carter has quite the crush on Supergirl, which results in the biggest disaster of the day when she’s gone and Winn is busy finding food for the two of them and he disappears. Carter believes that Supergirl will be at the Maxwell Lord Super Rail unveiling and he hopes this is his chance to meet her. Little does he know that Ethan Knox is also on board with a bomb strapped to his chest ready to blow everybody to smithereens. Oh and one more issue — there’s a second bomb at the airport and Supergirl can’t be in two places at once!
Race Against Time
Supergirl is speeding towards the airport to stop the bomb there until she’s told that there’s a second bomb on the train and Carter is there with it. Supergirl turns around and tells the DEO to save the airport, she’s going after the bomber and the train.
Amidst the chaos — James finds out Lucy is headed for the airport and he races to stop her from getting on a plane. The two of them nearly reconnected and then didn’t after Lucy confided in Kara that her real reason for ending things with James was based on his on-call relationship with Superman. Any time big blue needed something, James was more than happy to reciprocate and Lucy was typically left behind.
As Supergirl races back to the train, Hank and Alex get to the airport but the bomb is rigged in such a way that tampering with it in any way will just set it off. Hank orders Alex out of the building and then we see his cyborg powers kick in as he peers through the machine and stops the mechanism. As it turns out, the bomb was just a decoy to distract them from the real threat.
Supergirl makes it onto the train and puts Maxwell and Carter at one end while she goes after Ethan Knox, who is in the lead car just waiting to set off the bomb. When she reaches him, Kara tries to reason with the man but he’s intent on blowing himself and everybody on the train up. She tries to tell him about his daughter at home that needs him, but Ethan says something strange about how she’s getting the medical care she needs by him doing all this but she should still try to save everybody.
So Kara severs the lead car from the rest of the train with her heat vision and watches as the lone car left over speeds away into the distance before exploding. Kara saved the day, saved Carter and saved Maxwell but what was the real meaning behind all this?
A New Kind of Enemy
Kara returns Carter to his mother and while she’s not very happy to find out that he was able to get on the train in the first place, she is excited to hear him rave about Supergirl saving the day and how he’s so impressed at her heroic abilities.
Meanwhile, Kara has to witness James and Lucy fully back together while she continues to pine away for him silently and Winn is doing the same for her.
Back at the DEO, Hank and Alex discover a fail safe inside the dud that was set up to make them think a bomb was going to explode at the airport and when she hears about this, Kara realizes something diabolical was at work during this entire day.
Kara transforms to Supergirl and pays Maxwell Lord a visit after realizing that he mentioned something about fail safes earlier in the day. She confronts him and he confesses that the drones, the explosions and even the bomber were all working for him because Maxwell wanted to test Supergirl to see just how strong, how fast and how agile she truly was. He also found out when she abandoned the airport bombing where thousands stood to die in favor of the train with only a hundred people on board that Supergirl cared about somebody on there.
Kryptonite might be deadly, but Maxwell Lord wanted to know how to get at Supergirl’s heart and now he knows that somebody on his train was someone she cared enough about to save. Somebody that may know her true identity or hold a key to her life outside the skirt and cape.
And that’s the real key to finding out just what exactly makes Supergirl tick.
