In the latest ‘Supergirl’ recap, M’gann gets a visitor from her home planet and it pits friend against friend inside the DEO…
By Damon Martin — Editor/Lead Writer
Sooner or later, the White Martians were going to come to Earth hunting for M’gann M’orzz and that day finally came in the latest episode of ‘Supergirl’.
As it turns out, M’gann leaving her home planet after doing her best to stop the mass genocide as a White Martian who didn’t want to see the Green Martians wiped out completely didn’t go over so well and now it was time to pay for those “crimes”.
Of course, M’gann probably didn’t expect her executioner to be the man she used to call her mate.
Meanwhile, Kara is struggling to deal with her feelings for Mon-El while also feeling shut out of her sister’s life now that Alex has a girlfriend.
With that said, let’s recap the latest episode of ‘Supergirl’ titled ‘The Martian Chronicles’….
Consider That a Divorce
The episode begins this week with Kara doing her best worst attempt at explaining to Mon-El why she doesn’t have feelings for him and how it wouldn’t be a good idea for them to date. Of course, Kara is actually suppressing her feelings because she went through a lot of emotional turmoil last year when she was in pursuit of James only to see that potential relationship fizzle out before it started.
To add to Kara’s misery, her sister Alex blows off her birthday plans for the two of them so she can attend a Barenaked Ladies concert with her girlfriend. It’s just not a great day to be Supergirl.
Outside the alien bar where Mon-El works, M’gann discovers J’onn lurking in the shadows after recognizing him in several forms throughout the day. J’onn insists that he’s keeping an eye out for her after she was attacked psychically a week ago and then forewarned that the White Martians were going to come to Earth for her.
J’onn also reveals his feelings for M’gann in a way he hasn’t felt for anybody since his wife died. The special moment is broken up when the White Martians arrive — or at least one of them before Supergirl intervenes to save the day and send it fleeing.
The White Martian returns to confront M’gann where we learn that his name is Armek and he was bonded to her before she tried to help the Green Martians and left for Earth several hundred years ago. Now Armek has been tasked to retrieve M’gann and return her to Mars for execution or if she refuses, he will kill each and everyone of the friends she’s made since arriving on Earth.
Who Is Who? Who Are You?
Before Alex can enjoy a concert out with her girlfriend — while committing the ultimate foul of wearing a t-shirt of the band she’s about to see — she needs to go make things right with her sister. Alex knows Kara was hiding her true feelings about missing out on her birthday together.
So Alex heads to the DEO to talk with Kara but once again her sister is refusing to say exactly what’s on her mind. Meanwhile, M’gann is ready to leave National City to protect her friends from any harm but J’onn refuses to let her go and instead insists that she comes to the DEO where they can keep her from being hurt by the White Martian.
Unfortunately when J’onn arrives at the DEO there are two M’gann’s, which means one of them is the White Martian in disguise. Armek reveals himself before shutting down the power in the DEO. Before Winn can restore the power, Armek disappears and it forces J’onn to lock down the DEO so the White Martian can’t escape.
Sadly that also means that they are all trapped inside the DEO with Armek and to make matters worse, he can transform into anybody, which means he could have traded places with one of the people in the building from Supergirl to J’onn himself.
The only way to uncover who is the White Martian is exposure to fire, which reveals the real skin underneath. A few pass the test but then Winn’s hand transforms into the White Martian’s claw and he quickly tosses J’onn before escaping back into the facility and triggering a meltdown of the nuclear reactor in the DEO.
Because Armek stole all of Winn’s thoughts and memories, he re-programmed the facility so no one can deactivate the reactor and M’gann reveals that he would gladly consider this a suicide mission if it meant killing her. That leaves the rest of the team to find the real Winn hidden somewhere in the building before the reactor goes into meltdown or everybody is dead.
Meltdown
The team splits up into teams including Supergirl with Alex, where she finally reveals her true feelings about being passed over on her sister’s birthday so she can spend time with her girlfriend. Meanwhile, J’onn and M’gann find where Winn was hidden in the DEO and set him free but they discover something else — Alex has also been captured, which means the person with Kara is another White Martian!
Before long, Supergirl finds out the truth and she engages in battle with the White Martian near the reactor while J’onn tries to wake Winn up so he can stop the meltdown before it kills all of them. At the reactor, Winn works to stop a potential nuclear meltdown while Supergirl battles one White Martian as J’onn and M’gann face off with Armek.
Ultimately, Winn stops the meltdown, Supergirl beats the White Martian and M’gann ends up killing her former mate while saving J’onn at the same time.
The White Martians are defeated and M’gann is safe for another day.
Life on Mars
After defeating Armek and his White Martian friend, M’gann is safe but she tells J’onn that she’s decided to leave Earth and return home to Mars. She hopes that there are more like her at home that will speak out against the atrocities committed against the Green Martians but she can’t go on pretending that doing nothing will ever help the others on Mars.
J’onn is obviously sad but understands that M’gann is committed to exacting change. They share one final moment before she leaves for Mars.
Alex comes to visit Kara so they can mend fences after the dust up earlier concerning her birthday plans with Maggie. Kara finally confesses that her turmoil about Alex had more to do with her own stormy feelings regarding Mon-El.
Unfortunately, Kara runs into Mon-El at Cat Co. and he’s heading out on a date with Eve, which only further complicates her own feelings on the situation. Mon-El believed that Kara was moving on so he just decided to do the same. Now Kara has finally come to terms with how she feels about Mon-El and he’s attached with someone else.
Kara’s lackluster love life continues.
And in the preview for next week, the Luthor family is reunited as Lena comes face to face with her step mother Lillian Luthor following her capture as the leader of Project Cadmus.
‘Supergirl’ returns next Monday night at 8pm ET on the CW.
