Joss Whedon’s follow up to the wildly popular Avengers franchise begins principle photography in South Africa today….
The Avengers 2: Age of Ultron plans to open on May 1, 2015 so it’s time to get started on production and that’s what director and writer Joss Whedon will do with his film beginning principle photography on Tuesday in South Africa.
The film will shoot in several locations around the world, but it appears that at some point The Avengers will travel to South Africa because according to film commission from the area, the movie will open with at least 10 minutes taking place in Johannesburg.
“The great thing about this movie is that they are shooting Johannesburg as Johannesburg. Often you will find filmmakers will shoot in Johannesburg and portray the location as Los Angeles. This time around the first 10 minutes of the film will be of Johannesburg,” said Gauteng Film Commission’s (GFC) Desmond Mthembu in an interview with Eyewitness News in South Africa
The most interesting revelation is the fact that The Avengers 2 will open with a sequence in Johannesburg so it’s likely that just like the original movie where Loki appears early in the film to announce his presence, a battle or a villain of some sort will probably pop up in the opening titles and wreak havoc.
We know in the big picture, homicidal robot Ultron will be the big bad in Avengers 2, but there are several other cast members already in play for the upcoming sequel that could certainly play a part to help bring the group together in a united effort to open the movie.
