A documentary will be released in 2014 focusing on the failed Tim Burton project where Nicholas Cage would have been Superman…

There is a very famous story in Hollywood lore surrounding a script originally developed by writer and director Kevin Smith called Superman Lives that was eventually turned over to Tim Burton, who promptly fired the New Jersey native and brought on his own writers to finish the film.

Smith told the story in epic detail during his first Evening with Kevin Smith special, which you can watch below to hear exactly how this whole thing came about.

Now, Smith lost his involvement with the story once Burton came on board, but the film didn’t stop there. Burton and his crew then began development on a new Superman Lives script, as well as moving forward with Nicholas Cage playing the Man of Steel in the new film.

There are a few pictures and interviews still floating around the internet talking about Superman Lives, and now some ambitious filmmakers have taken it upon themselves to produce a documentary about the entire production called The Death of Superman Lives.

The trailer for the new documentary was released just a few days ago and we’ve got it here for you to see. The film will be released in 2014, but if nothing else watch Smith’s story about his involvement in the movie because it’s probably the best thing you’ll see all day
