“The Last of Us” season 2 has cast a crucial role with “Justified” and “No One Will Save You” star Kaitlyn Dever joining the show as Abby…
With “The Last of Us” season 2 expected to start production in February, a key new role has been cast for the show.
Kaitlyn Dever — best known for her past roles in series such as “Justified” as well as the recent Hulu sci-fi/horror film “No One Will Save You” — has been cast as Abby, described as “a skilled soldier whose black-and-white view of the world is challenged as she seeks vengeance for those she loved.”
Video game enthusiasts familiar with “The Last of Us” will definitely recognize Abby as a major character that will play a huge part in the remaining story left to tell. No spoilers but it’s safe to say Abby will become a central focus in “The Last of Us” season 2 and beyond.
“Our casting process for season two has been identical to season one: we look for world-class actors who embody the souls of the characters in the source material,” “The Last of Us” series co-creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann said in a statement. “Nothing matters more than talent, and we’re thrilled to have an acclaimed performer like Kaitlyn join Pedro, Bella and the rest of our family.”
“The Last of Us” is based on a popular video game that follows a survivor named Joel, who is tasked with protecting a young girl named Ellie as they travel across an apocalyptic wasteland in the United States after a fungal infection transforms the majority of the population into nearly unstoppable, zombie like killing machines. It turns out Ellie could be the key to ending the deadly Cordyceps virus but the journey to the cure might be even deadlier than the disease.
The first season of “The Lsat of Us” was met with critical and commercial praise with the show earning a number of Emmy nominations and a couple of early wins for guest roles played by Nick Offerman and Storm Reid.
There’s no word yet when “The Last of Us” season 2 might actually debut, although it’s likely the show won’t return to HBO until sometime in 2025.
