Jon Bernthal hasn’t even officially debuted as The Punisher but Netflix is already in talks to develop his character into a series of its own …
The Punisher has always been one of the most controversial yet beloved figures in the Marvel Universe and it appears he may be finally receiving his own series through Netflix.
The subscription service is currently working on plans to launch a Punisher TV series in coordination with Marvel following the character’s debut in the second season of Daredevil, which debuts on March 18.
Bernthal plays Frank Castle aka The Punisher — the troubled vigilante who has his entire family wiped out by the mob before he decides to seek vengeance against criminals using nothing less than lethal force. The Punisher is one of the few characters in the Marvel Universe who not only uses guns but actually kills the criminals he’s after.
The morality of vigilante justice will be a featured part of the upcoming season of Daredevil as fans are forced to deal with the reality of someone taking the law into their own hands and serving as judge, jury and executioner.
If The Punisher series comes to fruition, it would become the sixth overall Marvel series headed to Netflix following Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders, which is a mini-series that will combine the heroes from all the other shows together in one big feature.
