As if you weren’t already excited enough for The Walking Dead season 6 finale, Andrew Lincoln is upping the ante even more….
Negan’s arrival during The Walking Dead season 6 finale is already confirmed, but how he’ll make his first appearance is still a mystery.
Many long time readers of The Walking Dead comic book believe Negan (played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan) will make a similar entrance on the TV show as he did in Robert Kirkman’s source material, which was epic and heartbreaking at the same time.
Well, Andrew Lincoln, who plays Rick Grimes on the show, takes it up a notch by teasing Negan’s first appearance as better than anything he’s ever seen before.
“Just get ready, man. Just get ready.” Lincoln said recently. “I read the script and I went, ‘This is the greatest entrance ever written.’ ”
From the sound of things, Morgan nailed the role as soon as he landed on set and while his appearance in the season 6 finale is likely brief, he’s already got his fellow cast members on The Walking Dead jealous of the part he’s playing.
“All of the guys were going, ‘Aw, man. I wish I had gotten this guy!’ ” Lincoln said. “It’s incredible. Although it’s also kind of unbearable. Norman (Reedus) and I were like, ‘Ugh, all the girls on set are gonna love him.’ “
Lincoln knows how special Negan’s arrival is to The Walking Dead because he is definitely one of the most talked about characters in comic book history let alone the long running comic book where he originated.
It was never going to be easy to duplicate Negan on the screen compared to what was already drawn on the page and that’s why Lincoln says casting the right actor for the part was the most crucial work the series has done since he was chosen to play Rick Grimes.
“We’ve been talking about this guy for a long time. It’s probably the most important casting since Rick, really,” Lincoln said. “Everybody needs a hero, but I think they probably need a really good baddie even more. Negan’s incredibly charismatic.
“In this deranged society, there is a kind of logic to the way that he is running the place. He runs a tight ship, I’ll tell you that much. I’m actually very impressed. I doff my cap to this man!”
Negan will finally debut this Sunday night at 9pm during the special 90-minute season finale of The Walking Dead on AMC
