The Walking Dead has officially cast Tom Payne to play Paul ‘Jesus’ Monroe in the upcoming sixth season….
For fans of The Walking Dead comic book, it was only a matter of time before Paul ‘Jesus’ Monroe finally made an appearance on the TV show of the same name it will apparently happen during season 6.
Tom Payne — best known for his role in the short lived HBO series Luck — has been cast to play Jesus in The Walking Dead season 6, which kicks off on AMC on October 11.
Paul ‘Jesus’ Monroe originally appeared in issue No. 91 of the long running comic book series as a friend and trusted ally to Rick Grimes and his survivors living in the Alexandria Free Zone.
He’s called ‘Jesus’ because over the course of the zombie apocalypse he’s grown on a bushy beard and long hair, which looks similar to many modern pictures of Jesus Christ.
Jesus is well versed in weaponry, particularly hand to hand combat, and he’s also a valuable advisor with strategy as he helps Rick and his survivors battle against ultra bad guy Negan, who is another rumored character to eventually pop up on The Walking Dead.
There’s no word on when Payne will first appear on the show but he’s listed as a recurring character for season six but will likely get bumped to series regular for season seven, which means he probably won’t pop up until the latter half of the season airing between this year and 2016.
